CSIR-UGC-NET Exam
CSIR-UGC-NET is an all-India level entrance examination which is conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) to select the best eligible candidates for award Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) Fellowship in various CSIR laboratories and for the appointment of Lecturers/Assistant Professor in various Indian Universities or Institutes/Colleges.
Biotechnology graduates and postgraduates also participate in the CSIR-UGC-NET examination under the Life Sciences subject. To date, the CSIR-NET examination has not been organized for especially in the Biotechnology subject. Biotechnology students have to participate in this examination under the Life Sciences subject only.
CSIR-NET exam is the most prestigious exam for Biotechnology and Life Science graduates or postgraduate students for setting up a successful career in the Biotechnology field.

CSIR NET Biotechnology Eligibility Criteria
For the Biotechnology and Life Science graduates or postgraduate candidates, eligibility criteria are listed below.
- M.Sc. in Biotechnology or Life Science subjects or equivalent degree/ Integrated BS-MS/BS-4 years/BE/B.Tech in Biotechnology/B.Pharma/MBBS with a minimum of 55% marks for General/OBC candidates and 50% for SC/ST candidates.
- Candidates enrolled for M.Sc. can apply in the above subject under the Result Awaited (RA) category.
- B.Sc. (Hons) or equivalent degree holders or students enrolled in the Integrated MS-PhD program.
- Candidates that have a graduation degree that also is eligible for a CSIR-NET fellowship. But they have to enroll in Ph.D./Integrated Ph.D. program within the two years of the exam results being declared.
- Candidates that have only Bachelor’s degree are eligible to apply only for Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) and not for Lectureship (LS).
CSIR UGC NET exam is only for Indian National citizens.
CSIR-UGC-NET Exam Age Limit
There is an upper age limit for the candidates who are applying for the JRF-NET examination. A candidate is should not above the 28 years age limit before applying for the examination.
There are 5 years of age relaxation also for the SC/ST/Persons with Disability (PwD) candidate and 3 years in case of OBC -Non-Creamy Layer candidates.
If you applying for the Lectureship (NET) exam then there is no upper limit. You can apply any time of your age.
CSIR UGC NET Examination Pattern
The National Testing Agency (NTA) is conducting the CSIR-UGC National Eligibility Test (NET) which is a Computer-Based Test (CBT). The exam is conducted only in online mode there is no offline examination paper.
The examination text booklet is divided into 3 parts named A, B, and C.
- The first paper or Part A is common for all candidates that contain General Aptitude questions.
- The second paper or Part B contains your selected subject-related Multiple Choice questions on the topics given in your subject syllabus.
- The third paper or Part C contains higher value questions for checking the candidate's scientific concepts. Questions are analytical nature that can be solved by the candidate if they have good knowledge.
Give answers only to those questions that you know because the wrong answers decrease your marks. There is a @25% negative marking system for each wrong answer. If a question is found wrong for any reason then the benefit of marks for that question will be given to only those candidates who attempt the question.
The CSIR-NET exam duration is fixed for three hours.
The exam is conducted only in two languages Hindi and English. Candidates can choose any medium of paper according to their convenience.

CSIR NET Online Application
CSIR-UGC NET online application is a four-step process.
First, the candidate must go to the official website which is https://www.csirnet.nta.nic.in/ and press the 'Apply Online' button.
Registration Page: You have to fill here your personal details like your complete name, father and mother name, date of birth, address, email id, mobile number, etc.
Fill Application Form: Here you have to fill in all your educational details, and qualifications. You have to choose your exam subject and center, fee category, etc.
Uploading Documents: Here the candidate has to upload all supporting documents like her photograph, signature, and educational documents.
Payment of Fee: The candidate has to upload proof of payment for the Application Fee in this step.
CSIR NET Examination Fee
Candidates can deposit CSIR NET Exam Fee-only online mode through Credit or Debit Card or Net Banking by using the payment gateway of the website. There are four types of fees for four types of candidate categories.
- For General Candidates Rs. 1000/-
- For (OBC)-Non-Creamy Layer Rs. 500/-
- For SC/ST Rs. 250/-
- Persons with Disability (PwD) None
Documents Required While Applying Online
The candidate must carry these documents before applying for the CSIR-NET exam. They have to upload the following documents scanned copies during applying online.
- Candidates scanned recent passport size photographs.
- Scanned signature of the candidate.
- Qualifying exams final/last year mark sheet or testimonials
- Category Certificate for OBC, SC/ST candidates.
- PwD Certificate is required only for candidates who are Persons with disabilities.
- Candidates who apply under the Result Awaited (RA) category upload the duly attested Attestation Form by the HOD of his/her university/college/Institute.
